Former England midfielder Steven Gerrard made history as Liverpool’s captain during his playing days. With his exceptional captaincy and high level of all abilities, he led Liverpool to the Champions League championship.
After retiring, he achieved great success with Rangers, including an undefeated championship run, and his achievements were rewarded with his first Premier League challenge with Aston Villa.
He was sacked midway through last season after a poor run of results, partly due to the departure of his trusted assistant coach, and he has been on a free agent ever since.
Gerrard, who is set to embark on a new coaching career in Saudi Arabia, where he has invested heavily in acquiring great players amid reports of interest from various national teams and clubs, revealed that he had received two offers from the Championship before accepting Al-Ettifaq’s offer.
“I had a couple of other things on the table at Championship level and I had to make a decision what I believed was right for me,”
“In time with being patient, this was the best offer on the table because we had two offers that had a chance, they were took away from me rather than me making that decision.”
“I was in for two Championship jobs. I’m not afraid to say that, I never got them jobs, and I didn’t want to stay out of the game much longer and this was the best thing on the table at the time.”MAILONLINE
Gerrard’s side did not reject the offer, but the offer itself went back to the drawing board, and he was no longer appointed as a manager in England.
Nevertheless, Gerrard has pledged to grow in the Saudi Professional League, which is making rapid strides with oil money, and he won his first game in the league.
Can Gerrard make a name for himself in the Middle East and return to the European stage?
