With Wolverhampton Wanderers, he scored 44 goals and 19 assists in 131 games in total, becoming one of the best attackers in the Premier League.
His successes earned him a step up to Liverpool in the summer of 2020, where he has been involved in numerous goals in a variety of ways, working well with the front three.
Diogo Jota is one of the best goal scorers in Liverpool, a club with some of the best forwards in the world, and he can score with both legs, and despite his short stature, he has also scored many goals with his headers, thanks to his clever positioning and tactics.
His high scoring ability was mentioned by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher. He compared him to Michael Owen, Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, and Robbie Fowler, all of whom have scored many goals at Anfield, and praised him as a better scorer than them.
“I’ve played with some great Liverpool strikers and obviously Jamie’s played with one in terms of Robbie Fowler, I think of some of the strikers I’ve played alongside – Michael Owen, Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Robbie Fowler – I think he’s [Jota] the best finisher.”
“Robbie, maybe in terms of just pure finishing, hard and low into the corner. But this is just typical Jota [today], when he gets a chance he’s so clinical. This season, a goal or an assist every 84 minutes, there are only two or three players in the Premier League who are higher than that. He sums up Liverpool’s recruitment.”
“He’s still not a mainstay of the team. If everyone’s fit I’m still not sure he plays, but finishing-wise I think he’s as good if not better than Torres or even Suarez. Even Salah finishing-wise. Maybe the only one who can compete with him is Robbie Fowler in the early days of the Premier League.”
