With the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s retirement at the end of the season, there has been a lot of talk about candidates for Liverpool’s next manager. Among the top candidates, Xabi Alonso, a former Anfield coach, is reported to be the leading candidate.
The young Spanish coach, who has shown his skills at Bayer Leverkusen, where he took over midway through last season, is very popular among supporters.
Fabrizio Romano, referring to the latest coaching appointment, insisted that it is too early to discuss Xabi Alonso’s next coaching position.
“They need a total rebuild. They need someone new added to the board, a new manager and new staff, so many things are going to change at Liverpool.”
“From what I’m hearing, for sure, Xabi Alonso is a candidate they are considering. At the moment, there are no concrete conversations, so it is too early to say if Xabi Alonso will be the next Liverpool manager. But, for sure, he is a candidate.”

Other names reportedly in the running include Robert De Zerbi, who will lead Brighton, and Julian Nagelsmann, whose contract with the German national team expires this summer, so it remains to be seen who will take over.
