During the period when key left backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas were injured, Liverpool were reportedly linked with a variety of defenders. Among the most prominent names were Fulham defender Antony Robinson and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Aït-Nouri.

However, 26-year-old defender Joe Gomez played a series of good games on the left flank that defied expectations and made the absence of the mainstays of the team unnoticeable. With the return of Robertson and Tsimikas, the Algerian defender, who also played in the Africa Cup of Nations, is once again in the running.

According to TEAMTalk, Jurgen Klopp had suggested to the clubs that the Wolves defender be brought in. In addition, Manchester United has also listed the player as a target for this summer.

The 22-year-old French-born sideback has already made over 100 appearances at the Molineux Stadium. A technical defender, he is especially effective in attack, getting into the penalty area and creating chances.

He is one of the most promising young players in the Premier League, although he can be a bit light in defense at times. He has a contract with Wolverhampton until June 2026, so he is not a cheap acquisition.

However, Liverpool will change to a new regime with a new coach this summer. Considering that Klopp’s advice will have no influence, it is unlikely that they will embark on a full-scale acquisition.

Nevertheless, there may be an approach from a top Premier League club, as it could be seen as an imminent step up from the club he will spend from the summer of 2021…
