The 29-year-old midfielder, who joined Bayern from Stuttgart in the summer of 2015, initially made a name for himself at right back and gradually increased his playing opportunities in midfield. He has made close to 400 appearances for the German champions and has been a key player this season.
He is a smart player who can play in a variety of positions and could be a valuable member of Liverpool’s squad. However, former Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara moved to Anfield in a similar situation, but has played only 10 minutes this season due to a string of injuries.
He received one of the top three salaries, so it was a waste of reinforcement. Will Bayern be able to wipe away the memory of that time and try again to get a player with one year left on his contract?
