Liverpool, in search of defenders for the next generation of veteran center backs such as Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk, tried to acquire Chelsea’s young England defender Levi Colwill last summer.
The club is also rumored to have listed Sporting defender Goncalo Inácio, Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi, and is expected to make a serious move for a center back this summer.
Ajax’s 18-year-old defender Yorel Hato has also been mentioned as a possible candidate. Paris Saint-Germain has also shown strong interest in the Dutch national team’s future great, with Liverpool and Arsenal battling it out, and the French powerhouse club is also in the hunt, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
He has played for Ajax’s lower organization since 2018, and in 2023 he was attached to the first team, making 39 appearances this season despite being a teenager. With extensive experience not only in the domestic league, but also in the Europa League and the Conference League, his future looks promising.
The Rotterdam-born defender, who is also sometimes used at left back, just renewed his contract in March 2024 and will remain with the prestigious Dutch club until June 2028. A large sum of money will be required to bring him in, and the transfer fee could increase year by year.
