Liverpool will focus on signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in this summer's transfer market Transfers

Last summer, Liverpool saw a large number of midfielders leave and brought in many more. All of them are now active at Anfield, and more young players are rapidly developing and successfully revamping the midfield. This season, they are battling for the top spot in the Premier League.

Still, rumors of midfield reinforcements are rife at the Reds. Interest in German attacking midfield duo Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz has been reported, and interest in the Castricum-born midfielder from the Italian side has often been mentioned.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool are targeting Atalanta’s core player, Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, in this summer’s transfer window.

He moved to the Gewis Stadium from AZ Alkmaar in 2021. He has adapted to Italian soccer and has become an indispensable player for manager Gian Piero Gasperini. He has scored 26 goals and assisted 12 times in 112 games.

He has also scored two goals in 20 games for the Dutch national team, and his reputation is growing every year. At only 26 years old, he could be an interesting option for Liverpool, as he has more than five years of experience.

However, Liverpool has an adequate midfield lineup at the moment. Many of the players are in their early 20s and midfielders, and the next generation after Jurgen Klopp is competing for the position, and the teenagers are also having a breakthrough year.

Atalanta was initially expected to ask for £34 million, but decided to raise the price to £43 million after strong performances in recent years.

Any club looking to acquire the player would have to offer more than that, and it is hard to imagine a future in which Liverpool would spend that budget on a position that is not a point of reinforcement.
