Hansi Flick's new Barcelona are interested in Thiago Alcántara, who left Liverpool Transfers

Former Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcántara has hardly played a game for Liverpool this season and has been off the bench. His contract expired and he became a free transfer this summer, and with interest from Saudi Arabia arriving, his departure is being closely watched.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder, who is also said to want to stay in Europe, has been reported by Diario AS as saying that Barcelona, whose coach Xavi has been sacked and will be replaced by Hansi Flick, are interested in the player and may make contact with him.

A product of Barcelona’s youth system, he has made a total of 100 first team appearances, scoring one goal and providing 20 assists, before moving to Bayern in the summer of 2013, where he made 235 appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 37 assists – an impressive figure.

When he joined Liverpool in 2020, it was on the pitch where he made his magic passes and created chances. He created chances, but a string of injuries meant he played less than 100 games.

The 33-year-old veteran midfielder did not have a satisfactory English career, but his ability is undisputed. For Spanish clubs that are financially unable to land big names, a former Spanish midfielder who can sign for no transfer fee could be an ideal asset.

He also acts as a big brother to Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz at Anfield, and is expected to be a spiritual pillar, but will he settle at his old club in his new home…?
