Liverpool’s search for a successor to Egyptian international Mohamed Salah will continue this summer for a new attacker, with interest in young wingers and attacking midfielders who have performed brilliantly in Europe.

While a number of names have surfaced and disappeared, Belgian international Johan Bakayoko of PSV Eindhoven is seen as the prime target. In addition to Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Blenford were also interested in the winter transfer market.

Dutch journalist Rick Elfrink, who is familiar with PSV Eindhoven’s inner workings, has weighed in on the 21-year-old winger’s departure, saying that a decision will be made after EURO 2024, and that he is likely to step up this summer.

“It seems almost certain that he will leave PSV. The management of the 21-year-old Belgian is talking to several clubs, with the names of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund previously being mentioned in the media.”

“Only after the European Championship will Johan Bakayoko make a decision about his sporting future, sources close to him say.”

“There is a good chance that [decision] it is located outside Eindhoven.”
