Liverpool’s search for a left-footed centre-back led to the pursuit of Chelsea defender Levi Colwill in last summer’s transfer window.
As a result, he signed a long-term deal with the club he grew up with and has turned his attention to other targets, with a number of names of defenders who can also play at left-back emerging.
Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, is one such player. A member of last season’s undefeated Bundesliga champions, he made 43 appearances throughout the season and was a key contributor to the club’s run to the Europa League final.
Although he has seen little media coverage of his move to Liverpool in recent times, the 22-year-old centre-back is open to leaving the club this summer and seems keen on a new challenge. German Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that negotiations are ongoing.
“Piero Hincapie, one to watch now as the 22 y/o defender could leave Bayer 04 Leverkusen in August!”
“Hincapie is open for a new challenge as he wants to be a regular starter next season. There are inquiries and talks with other top clubs. But no agreements yet.”
“Contract valid until 2027.”

In addition to defensive midfielders and attackers, Liverpool are also looking to secure a centre-back this summer and may once again show interest in the Ecuadorian defender.
The departure of Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg, who is said to want to leave, could have an impact.
Will Liverpool be able to acquire the pieces needed to develop new manager Arne Slot’s football preferences…? And will Piero Hincapié be among them…?
