22-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg is a player that Bundesliga and Dutch clubs are all trying to acquire after his big break at Mainz last season. He has spent his time on loan at Liverpool without much use, but that could end this summer.
Meanwhile, new manager Arne Slot has a high opinion of the young centre-back from his hometown and sees him as the perfect man to fill the hole left by Joel Matip. He is not that keen on being released in this summer’s transfer window and could stay at Liverpool.
Fabrizio Romano, who is familiar with the transfer market, has assured Liverpool that he will not accept a reduction from the £20 million that the club is demanding for the player, as PSV Eindhoven and Mainz do not have the capacity to pay more than the same amount and transfer talks could go away without further ado.
“Understand Liverpool have been clear with clubs interested in Sepp van den Berg: price tag is £20m.”
“Liverpool are not accepting €10/12m proposals, no way.”
“The asking price remains £20m.”
