Portuguese U-21 midfielder Fabio Carvalho was one of the best young talents in the Championship during his time at Fulham, and decided to move to Liverpool upon promotion to the Premier League. Last season he was on loan at two clubs, RB Leipzig and Hull City.
He spent the second half of the season at Hull City, where he was a high scorer, scoring nine goals in 20 games. Under new manager Arne Slot, he was expected to fight for a place at Anfield, but a transfer to Brentford for a total of £27.5 million was completed.
In his new position, he will be looking to make a start and appeal to manager Thomas Frank.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who sought an unfamiliar position on the left wing as well as an environment where he could play on a weekly basis, stressed that consistent pitch presence was essential to maintain his performances.
“I had a decent pre-season, played a few games, scored a few goals, which is what it’s about,”
“For me, I know myself and I play better when I’m playing consistently and that’s what it’s all about.”
“As a footballer, you’re going to be able to gain confidence from playing regularly – and I’m already looking to score on Sunday!”

With Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo ahead of him in the pecking order among left wingers, and Dominik Szoboszlai and Harvey Elliot behind him in the middle, the move is ideal for the former Fulham midfielder who wants regular game time.
For Liverpool, the above transfer fee, plus a 17.5% sell-on clause, was also a good deal, so a release would be the right move for a player who is not a priority.
So will the young midfielder, who had a bitter experience at Anfield, have a brilliant career at Brentford…?
