Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah talks about his new head coach Slot and his enthusiasm for the new season Team

Last summer, 21-year-old defender Jarell Quansah emerged in pre-season and quickly became a regular contender in the centre-back ranks.

A clever defender, he repelled opposition attacks with his precise positioning as well as his blessed athleticism and ability to sense danger. He has a calm style of play and is a candidate for future defensive leader.

Last season he played only 17 Premier League games, but this season he is expected to play close to 30 games in the domestic league.

Jurgen Klopp has left the club and Dutchman Arne Slot has taken over as Liverpool manager. The young centre-back revealed that it will be difficult for him to adjust to the new style of play immediately, but said he will gradually get better.

“It’s always going to be [like that], it’s not going to click straight away.”

“He’s got a lot of new ideas that we have to get used to. Obviously a lot of the lads have played under the last manager for quite a while, so it’s a lot of adaptation.”

“But it’ll come slowly but surely. There’s still a lot of work to be done on the training pitch and we’ll continue to do that.”

Liverpool fought with Manchester City and Arsenal for the championship until the very end, but the gap widened towards the end of the season.

Although they want to close the gap in strength, they have not acquired anyone at the moment and the first reinforcement is likely to be a low priority goalkeeper.

Nevertheless, he stressed that the team must focus on finishing games without conceding a goal by improving the team’s discipline.

He mentioned that reducing the number of easy goals conceded and increasing the number of clean sheets would be a shortcut to winning the Premier League.

“We’ve just got to keep building. Obviously the unit is still coming back together and we’ve not had many minutes together,”

“We’re still adapting to a different playing style and things like that. I think the clean sheets will come and I think we need to prioritise that this season.”

“There were too many games last season where we conceded cheap goals, and we can’t really start games going down, it’s not what you need when you’re pushing for titles. To set the foundations and keep clean sheets is how you win leagues.”
