Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool are aiming to evolve to a more position-focused football, while continuing the play of Jurgen Klopp’s regime, and have been instilling their tactics in their players throughout pre-season.
They were close to acquiring Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as a potential central midfield player, but were persuaded by his club to stay in Spain. With reinforcements not going their way, reinforcements for the future may be on the way.
Liverpool are in the market for Valencia’s 23-year-old goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and have reached a personal agreement with the player, including a loan move to Bournemouth for up to two years. The only thing left to do is to reach a contractual agreement with his club, but progress is lacking at the moment.
Paul Robinson, who played for Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur and made 41 appearances for England, praised the Georgian goalkeeper’s ability, who is rumoured to be on the move to Liverpool, and was concerned about the departure of Caoimhin Kelleher.
