Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi started every game for England at EURO 2024 this summer, with the exception of the quarter-final against Switzerland, until the final stage. Together with John Stones, he formed a solid defensive line.
The player’s improved form has attracted interest from Newcastle United, who are looking to rejuvenate their centre-backs, and have made several offers to the player. However, none of these have convinced his club, and at the moment there is no move on the cards.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are tracking the progress of national team defender Joe Gomez, who is expected to struggle for playing time at Liverpool, in case they fail to land the England defender.
This is not the first time anything has been reported linking the north of England club with the 27-year-old defender. Liverpool hold Newcastle FW Anthony Gordon in high regard and a move involving Gomes was being considered at a time when the club was being rocked by ‘profitability and sustainability rules’ (PSR) issues.
Manager Arne Slott is reportedly not keen on releasing the former Charlton defender, while the player himself is looking at a move due to concerns about securing playing time.
With the summer market running out, will the transfer saga over the 27-year-old centre-back, who has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, take a new turn?
