Juventus forward Federico Chiesa was at the heart of Italy’s EURO 2020-winning national team, and after his remarkable performances, he was linked with a number of big club moves at the time. Since then, there have been ongoing rumours of interest from Liverpool.
However, he has had a poor season since then, partly due to injuries. Although he scored 32 goals and provided 23 assists in 131 games for Torino, he has not played well enough to make it past the EURO, and his market value is dwindling.
Then came the situation that followed him. New coach Thiago Motta ruled the Italian winger out of his plans and was looking for a new home. Barcelona were interested, but financial problems made it difficult to acquire him, and Liverpool, who had been tracking his movements for some time, jumped in.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are looking to secure the 26-year-old attacker before the transfer deadline closes this summer, and with his contract expiring in June 2025, he is only available for a fee of around €15 million.
The club have offered the player a four-year contract and are in discussions with him. He is expected to be used more as a right winger, where backup is scarce, but he can play left, right or centre up front and, barring injury, could be a valuable member of the team.
Will the transfer saga for the Italian international be completed and will he join Anfield?
