Liverpool, who have made few moves in the transfer market this summer, began to show some activity just before the deadline. Despite failing to land Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, they made a string of signings, including Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa.
The Georgia goalkeeper will be on loan at Valencia this season, so he will in effect be playing at Anfield from next summer. The Italian international, who was also plagued by injuries at Juventus, is keen to challenge in England in order to get his career back on track.
Nevertheless, Liverpool are not letting up on their reinforcements. According to L’Équipe, Liverpool have made enquiries about Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, who was part of the France Under-23 squad for the Paris Olympics.
No further information has been released and it is unknown whether any further moves will be made. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who has a promising future in Ligue 1, is highly regarded in France and uses his two-footed technique to break the deadlock.
He has less than a year to run on his contract with Olympique Lyon until June 2025 and is available for a fee of €15 million. In June this year, he was close to joining Paris Saint-Germain, but he wants to go to Borussia Dortmund, who have not even sent an offer.
From the Premier League, Fulham have also reached an inter-club agreement, but the player is not positive about going to London and talks about leaving have stalled. Meanwhile, his club has offered him a new contract, including a small salary increase, and he could pledge his loyalty to the club where he grew up as a youth player.
Liverpool are moving rapidly in the transfer market, but will they welcome a French midfielder as their third reinforcement this summer…?
