Loan move collapses...Liverpool have cancelled the signing of Mexican international César Huerta Transfers

Liverpool have acquired Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia and Italian international Federico Chiesa from Juventus. The former will remain in Spain this season, so the only real signing is the 26-year-old attacker.

Although Liverpool have not made as many moves as had been expected, they have also carried out enquiries for various players behind the scenes.

And Mexican international César Huerta, who plays for UNAM Pumas, was also linked with a move to Anfield, according to Kery Ruiz, a Mexican journalist.

“César Huerta was ready to travel to England, however the third team in the equation was Sunderland and in the end they did not agree to take him on loan for the season.”

“After Sunderland’s no, Liverpool essentially cancelled the signing because they would not be able to register him this season.”

“In a matter of hours, it went from cooked to almost ready and then this signing fell through.”

“He stays 6 more months with Pumas and in winter they will look again at their options.”

If the Mexican journalist’s story is true, Liverpool set out to secure the 23-year-old young attacker on the premise of a loan move to Sunderland, but were unable to reach an agreement with the Championship club.

The Mexican forward has scored 17 goals and provided 11 assists in 75 games for his club, but his lack of experience on the European stage is a cause for concern. Like Federico Chiesa, he can play on the left or right wing.

It remains to be seen how far Liverpool will be serious about acquiring a player unproven in the top flight, but will he ever challenge for the Premier League in the future…?
