Ben Doak, an 18-year-old forward, was recognised for his high potential during Jurgen Klopp’s time as manager and earned a place in the first team, mainly in cup competitions.

His strong dribbling ability was his greatest asset and he was expected to make a full recovery from last season’s serious injury.

However, he was not rated as highly by manager Arne Slot as his predecessor, and amid rumours that he could even be released on a permanent transfer, a loan move to Championship side Middlesbrough was announced.

The deadline is for one year until the end of the season, with the aim of significant development.

Ahead of his debut for his new club, he made his debut for Scotland in a Nations League match against Poland. Although he lost the match, he was involved in the team’s second goal and showed his extraordinary talent despite playing 19 minutes.

Former Aberdeen defender Willie Miller, who made 67 appearances for Scotland in his playing days, said that Ben Doak’s midway introduction has brought the whole team back to life and that the right winger will develop into a renowned player.

“Everybody got a lift, including the players. Doak’s impact was immediate. It’s great to see someone with that pace, directness and skill.”

“The manager now has a responsibility to give him the opportunity when he’s that young.”

“On the evidence of his cameo appearance as a substitute, he’s going to be big player in that position going forward.”
