With Andy Robertson now 30 and Kostas Tsimikas 28, Liverpool are not a young left-back corps. Their back-up is also older, with 27-year-old Joe Gomez, and reinforcements for the next generation are inevitable.

Young defenders in their early 20s, such as Owen Beck and Luke Chambers, are waiting in the wings, but a first-team place is not very realistic at the moment. Liverpool may be in for a surprise reinforcement.

According to HITC, they could make an offer for Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, who is likely to move to Real Madrid and has no intention of extending his current contract until June 2025.

Real Madrid, who are planning to secure the player as his contract with the German powerhouse club expires, have been rumoured to be in the market for him this summer.

That move never materialised after Bayern refused to match their demanding offer, but the Canadian defender has continued to turn down contract renewal talks and is almost certain to leave next summer.

Manchester City and Chelsea are believed to be serious targets from the Premier League, while Arsenal, led by Mikel Arteta, who rate the 23-year-old left-back highly, are also exploring the possibility of a free transfer.

Liverpool and Manchester United have also shown interest in the past, and the paper suggests that Merseyside clubs will also join the fray against this background.

However, the probability of Liverpool stopping them is close to zero, as they are almost certain to go to Spain. With other potential left-back names being mentioned, we would like to believe that they will avoid fierce competition and implement smart reinforcements.
