Liverpool, who have acquired 16-year-old forward Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea and 16-year-old defender Alvin Ayman from Wolverhampton Wanderers, have continued to strengthen their academy this summer, with young players such as Ben Doak and Calvin Ramsay gaining experience in the lower leagues.

Liverpool have an ongoing focus on new teenage talent in the Championship. According to GIVEMESPORT, they are watching the development of Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg along with Chelsea and Manchester City.

He made his professional debut on 8 January 2023 in an FA Cup third round match against Shrewsbury Town, followed by a fourth round appearance against Fulham.

Last season, he also made his league debut in the Championship against Southampton in the fifth round and was a regular in the starting line-up in the second half of the season.

This season, he has really hit the ground running and leads the attack as an attacking midfielder.

A gem of a player, he has also been selected for the England U-18 squad, so it is no surprise that a number of strong clubs are interested. And it makes sense that Liverpool are in that group.

The 17-year-old midfielder has a contract with Sunderland until June 2027, but will he step up to the mega club this winter or next summer…?
