After a strong start to the Premier League season with three consecutive wins, Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season against Nottingham Forest at Anfield after the international break, and the game was a disappointment.
With many players moving slowly, losing the majority of one-on-ones, and little ingenuity in turning the ball around to break down the opposition’s defence with numbers of men, the defeat was understandable.
With a number of areas for improvement highlighted, Arne Slot’s team will now take on AC Milan in their first Champions League game.
Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Liverpool’s goalmouth defender, acknowledged the fact that his side easily conceded the final goal and said they lacked both quality and energy. He also praised his opponents for their thoroughness.
“It was a shame, losing points at home is not good at all but the opponent today only wanted to defend and play for the long ball,”
“We gave them that too easily when they scored, it was poor defensively from us.”
“We couldn’t create much, we had a lack of quality today, we needed more energy. It is three points we have lost today unnecessarily. All the opportunities we had were not clear enough and they defended great, they threw themselves in front of the ball.”
