The former Chelsea forward re-emphasises his recommendation for Bryan Mbeumo to replace Mohamed Salah Transfers

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has attracted strong interest from Saudi Arabia since last summer. A big offer was expected to arrive this summer, but the Middle Eastern club is looking to acquire him on a free transfer as his contract is about to expire.

His current contract with Liverpool runs until June 2025. Both the player and the club are believed to be open to renewing the contract, but so far talks have not moved forward. Negotiations are expected to take place this year, including with his agent, and a decision is expected to be made.

However, at 32 years of age, he is now approaching the veteran stage of his career and a successor is essential from a long-term perspective. Despite the signing of Italian international Federico Chiesa, it remains to be seen how well he will fare in England for the first time, so it is best to have other options.

Former Ireland international Tony Cascarino, who played for Chelsea, Aston Villa and Marseille during his playing career, has still been pushing for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo as his replacement and reiterated that claim.

“I remember saying to you about if Mo Salah left, Mbeumo would be the one I would have gone after,”

“He’s got so much about him, he’s got goals, he’s got durability, he’s just a nuisance every time he plays.”

The new Arne Slot regime may require a different role and ability from the right winger, as he is challenged to play fast, vertical football as in the Jurgen Klopp era, but also to connect from the tail end.

The Cameroon winger, who has also proven himself in the Premier League during the German’s time in charge, was an ideal target, but the team will be based on what kind of player is needed throughout the season and how well the former Juventus FW has performed.

Will Liverpool secure a new attacker this summer and in next summer’s transfer window?
