Liverpool looked set to strengthen with the appointment of Arne Slot as manager, but failed to land Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi and secured Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for next year.
They finished the transfer market with only the acquisition of Italian international Federico Chiesa just in time for the deadline.
While the supporters were not happy with the lack of major reinforcements as they had hoped, a high priority for the Liverpool leadership was to renew the contracts of three of the team’s key players.
These are Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Former England defender Glen Johnson, who also played as Liverpool’s right-back during his playing days, made a bold prediction about their departure, saying the Egyptian international will leave and the Dutch and English defenders will stay.
“I believe Mo will leave and the other two will stay.”
“Each of them are going to have an endless list of clubs that will want to sign them if they’re available as a free agent and if Liverpool know that any of them aren’t going to sign a new contract, then I believe they’ve been foolish to not cash in.”
“You can’t have players of their calibre walking out on a free.”

For Egyptian King, the Saudis continue to maintain a strong interest and a plan to sell him on a one-year contract is not out of the question. As for the other two players, if terms cannot be agreed, they may move to sign short-term deals and avoid free transfers.
So where does the future lie for the three key players in the team…?
