Liverpool’s pursuit of defensive midfielders and centre-backs could reportedly start to secure a player who can again take over at the bottom of midfield this winter.

They are also said to still be interested in Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi, whom they failed to land this summer.

Meanwhile, links with attacking midfielders are also frequently mentioned in the media.

According to Christian Falk (German journalist), Liverpool, along with Manchester United and City, are interested in Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons.

“Xavi Simons also has the same clubs interested in him,”

“Liverpool have a coach who can speak the same language. There’s a Dutch coach also present at Manchester United. So, these offer huge chances for either club.

“United and Liverpool were interested in the player historically, but also Manchester City are in the race and he would be a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s system.

“He’s more likely to go to the Premier League than [Florian] Wirtz. Along with [Jamal] Musiala, there could very well be three transfer jewels on the market next year.”

Liverpool, as an example, are also reportedly keen on Germany’s supreme treasure duo Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, which could lead to a fierce battle for the three young midfielders next summer.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Harvey Elliott are attacking midfielders, but the former has the ability to play down a position, and it cannot be ruled out that the Dutchman could be further strengthened to bolster the midfield as a whole.

He has been on loan at RB Leipzig for the second season in a row from Paris Saint-Germain, but is expected to leave on a full transfer next year. So will the young 21-year-old midfielder step up to the new challenge in the Premier League…?
