French defender Ibrahima Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 and has been competing with Virgil van Dijk for a partner.
Although his condition did not return in the second half of last season, he has continued his good form in the early stages of this season.
With his overwhelming physicality and athleticism, he shows absolute strength in defending against opponents. He is also an outstanding cover for England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has defensive concerns, and has contributed to a number of clean sheets in Arne Slot’s system.
The 25-year-old centre-back, who is loved by his teammates for his cheerful personality, is at the heart of Liverpool’s medium- to long-term project, and talks have begun to renew his current contract, which runs until June 2026. Negotiations will move forward soon, Fabrizio Romano said.
“Liverpool have opened talks over new deal for Ibrahima Konaté as he’s considered key part of the project.”
“Discussions ongoing and expected to advance soon as Ibrahima is happy at Liverpool.”
