‘Fight for the starting position’ Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili talks about his ambitions at Liverpool next season Transfers

Saudi Arabia are keen on 32-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker. They had been in the market for him along with the country’s goalkeeper Ederson, who also plays in the Premier League, but both players have remained in England this season.

Alisson has a contract with Liverpool until June 2027 and the player himself has stated that he will fulfil his contract and is unlikely to leave in the near future. Meanwhile, a replacement for the veteran goalkeeper has been secured, with Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili officially playing at Anfield from next season.

Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is likely to leave the club and is expected to battle it out with the goalkeeper currently on loan at Valencia. The Georgia goalkeeper said he is ready to compete for a starting place ahead of his time at Liverpool.

“I was attracted by Liverpool’s project when the club’s representatives met me to sign me. I will fight for the starting goalkeeper position even if the current goalkeeper does not leave the team.”

The 24-year-old goalkeeper, who led his country’s full national team at EURO 2024 this summer with his outstanding shot-stopping, is a powerful saves maker who makes full use of his large frame.

But he still lacks experience in leaping and passing from low positions and needs to get used to the Premier League, and next season he will Alisson will probably move up the pecking order.

However, once he gets used to English football and Arne Slott’s style of play, he has the ability to be a starter and is likely to lead the team as a defender from the 2026/27 season.
