Since last summer, Saudi Arabia has been investing aggressively and has been raking in star players from all over the world. These are mainly around the age of 30 and are players who have come of age, but also include players in their early to mid-20s who are still very much in the game.
Liverpool players are also of interest, with Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk among the rumoured targets, but the main focus of attention is Egyptian international Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool immediately rejected a huge offer in the transfer market last summer, and the club has been linked with a move for the Egyptian international again this summer.
It was thought that another offer would be made this summer, but no concrete moves have been made and it is believed that Liverpool are targeting a deal that expires in June 2025.
Saudi Professional League (SPL) director of football Michael Emenalo said that the Egyptian King’s landing in Saudi Arabia would depend on the player, but that the Middle Eastern league was definitely interested.
“I think it depends on Mo,”
“The stories that our teams went after him was true, it is true, there was an interest, but just like Osimhen, it’s ok for me to have an interest in signing Mo, but the club have to have an interest in letting him go, and if those things don’t align, you don’t have a deal,”
“Fundamentally, Liverpool didn’t want to sell and what price were we willing to buy at? I didn’t feel the player was ready to come because he felt like he had unfinished business.”
