After ending his nine years at Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has been appointed Head of Global Football at Red Bull after a short break. Away from coaching, he will be responsible for building and developing the international football network.
In his final year at Liverpool, which he entrusted to Arne Slot, the German manager began to revamp his midfielders, including Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch, to fill the holes left by Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
According to SportBILD, the former Liverpool manager had a high opinion of Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons, who plays for RB Leipzig, and dreamed of bringing him to Anfield.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who has been on loan in the Bundesliga from Paris Saint-Germain for two consecutive years, plays as a left and right winger, and last season he was on a rampage with 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 games.
He has continued to start this season and has also performed admirably for the Dutch national team.
His contract with the French club runs until June 2027, and a complete transfer is likely in next summer’s transfer market. However, Paris Saint-Germain are said to be demanding a fee in excess of €80 million and are not willing to let go of the promising young midfielder on the cheap.
We don’t know if they are still interested now that the system has changed to coach Slot. It is also unlikely that Liverpool will make a move for him, as they cannot afford to pay a high transfer fee and have several other positions that are more important to them than attacking midfielders.
So which club will the 21-year-old, who was also a member of Barcelona’s lower divisions, be playing for next season…?
