‘Had been written off by Jurgen Klopp’, Dutch journalist debates Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez Team

Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica two years ago, and although he looked flailing in his first season with the club, he put up impressive numbers last season with 18 goals and 13 assists in 54 appearances.

In Arne Slott’s new team, he gave up his starting place to Diogo Jota, partly due to a change in the role required of the centre-forward. The Portuguese international is currently getting more playing time due to injury, but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to hold down the position when he returns.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old forward, who is not a dexterous type of player, is doing his best to adapt to the new style of play and has also been standing in to link the ball up in recent games! This has reduced his goal-scoring prowess, but he is still developing as a player.

However, Van der Kraan of the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf was surprised to hear that the previous German coach had given up on the Uruguayan striker He also noted that the new Dutch coach had focused on his ability to run, and had also devoted time to making sure he fulfilled the role needed in the new team.

“Nunez had been written off by Jurgen Klopp, but the first thing Slot saw: that boy can run,”

“I need that for chasing down opponents. That’s something that Nunez can do wonderfully.”

“You saw Nunez laying a fantastic ball for Salah [against Arsenal]. Those two strikers Slot has been so busy with in the summer to make sure he plays evenly.”
