England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has a contract until June 2025, is still in negotiations with Liverpool. However, no contract renewal has been announced at this stage and there has been speculation about his departure, both with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Real Madrid, looking for a successor to Spanish defender Daniel Carvajal, are looking to take the player when his contract expires. Rumours have been reported from Spanish quarters that the team’s vice-captain has refused to sign a contract, or that he has reached an agreement with Madrid, both of which lack credibility.
Amidst such rumours, former Scotland defender Steve Nicol, who also used to play for Liverpool, has theorised that his club’s junior player is close to going to Spain. He imagines a future playing at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“If anybody fits the profile for Real Madrid it’s Alexander-Arnold, a full-back who doesn’t really defend, although someone praised him this year but I’m not so sure about that.”
“To be honest, all the noises I hear absolutely point towards him going there. The fact that Carvajal had such a bad knee injury will only mean that Real Madrid’s desire is even stronger than it was earlier.”
“I get a feeling in a part of my stomach that Real Madrid and Alexander-Arnold are going to be getting together in the not-so-distant future.”

Liverpool do not want to lose their future captain candidate and will be doing their best to negotiate with the player.
No information about the talks has been circulated, and no one other than those involved knows what stage they are at at the moment, but an announcement on the signing of a new contract with the 26-year-old right-back is awaited.
What decision will the local defender make…?
