Liverpool, who have changed their midfield structure since the Jurgen Klopp era, have named Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch as their new ‘No.6’. He has continued to live up to the trust of manager Arne Slot and has performed well since the start of the Premier League season.
However, he is also keen to sign a new defensive midfielder, and this summer he did his best to secure Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The club is expected to make another move in the transfer market this winter and next summer, with Japan midfielder Wataru Endo rumoured to be on the verge of leaving the club.
According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are interested in Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt. The report also claims that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also watching the player’s development.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who has just signed a long-term contract until June 2029, came to the Bundesliga from Malmo last summer and made 38 appearances in his first season with the club. He played a key role in the team and quickly developed into one of the most promising prospects in Europe.
This season he has continued to accumulate experience, starting a number of games in the domestic league and the Europa League. He has also pitched for the Swedish national team in six games and has played at the top level despite being a young player.
His original contract appears to have had a release clause attached to it, but this new deal is said to have removed it, meaning that clubs looking to acquire him will have to offer a hefty transfer fee.
Liverpool are also reported to have a strong interest in Egyptian international Omar Marmoush, who also leads the attack for Frankfurt, and could do double duty from a team that remains top of the Bundesliga.
The Swedish midfielder is realistically set to continue to develop at his current club over the next few years. He is unlikely to step up in the transfer market next summer and Liverpool will have to focus on other targets if they want to add depth to their midfield.
So who will the Reds bring in as a new midfield player…?
