With Andy Robertson entering his 30s and Kostas Tsimikas at 28, Liverpool’s left-back age group is growing. The Scotland defender is still a world-class defender, despite some decline, and is not that important a reinforcement.
On the other hand, there are constant reports that Liverpool are interested in the left-back. Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Aït-Nouri and Fulham defender Antonee Robinson are reportedly targets, while talk of 21-year-old Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez is also gaining momentum.
Fabrizio Romano, who is well versed in the transfer market, has assured Liverpool that he is following the developments, after prefacing the player with the familiarity of Richard Hughes, who has been the sporting director on Merseyside since this season.
“Liverpool director Richard Hughes was at Bournemouth and obviously knows the player so well and the excellent skills and qualities of the player. So, they are monitoring Kerkez,”
“For Liverpool he is for sure a player they appreciate, for sure they like him.”
“Before saying they are going for him we have to wait, but for sure they appreciate him. The process to monitor and follow the player is a reality.”
“But, again, it doesn’t mean that they are going to bid for him any time soon because we know how Liverpool take their time before doing anything,”
“So, at the moment we are at the scouting stage, let’s say it like this. But for a player that Richard Hughes knows so well and he knows the potential of this boy who is really appreciated around Europe.”

In terms of playing style, age and experience in his second year in the Premier League, the player would suit Arne Slot’s tastes, and with the value of Hughes’ links with Bournemouth, he seems to be the most realistic of the recently reported left-backs on the market.
Will Liverpool really be serious about acquiring the Hungarian defender…?
