Liverpool added Italian international Federico Chiesa to their squad from Juventus in this summer’s transfer window, and with six world-class forwards in their ranks, it is not a pressing issue. Nevertheless, the search for a successor to Mohamed Salah, who will be 33 next year, continues.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have made contact with clubs to acquire 25-year-old Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz as a replacement for the Egyptian international. AC Milan and Juventus from Italy have also expressed interest as well.
The Moroccan attacker, who has also played for Manchester City, made his mark at AC Milan on loan, scoring 18 goals and assisting 15 in 124 appearances, before returning to Madrid last season and making 44 appearances, half of which were from the middle of the park. This season, he started in a different position.
This season he has been joined by French international Kylian Mbappe, albeit in a different position, and there is an overabundance of players up front. He can also play on the left or right wing or as an attacking midfielder, so he is a player the team would like to keep as an asset.
He is under contract until June 2027 and is not a cheap move. Also, Liverpool should target a forward with more scoring potential, and he is not a target for them. Even if he is an attacking midfielder, there is no need for reinforcements, with the likes of Szoboszlai, Elliott and Jones waiting in the wings.
The Moroccan international is unlikely to join Anfield, but will he ever change his playing position to Italy again…?
