Defensive stalwart, Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, will be 34 next year. The club has an excellent centre-back group, including Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah, but is keen to invest in the future.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are tracking Ecuadorian defender Joel Ordóñez, who plays for Club Brugge. It also reports that Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa are also interested.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who moved to Belgium from Independiente in August 2022, joined Club Brugge in the transfer market last summer. He missed many games last season, partly due to a hamstring injury, but has already been on the pitch in 18 games this season.
He has started every game in the Champions League and is gaining recognition as a promising young centre-back in Europe.
The Belgian champions naturally want to keep the Ecuadorian defender, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to prevent him from moving to a major league. The player is said to be valued at around €30 million.
Will Liverpool be looking to the young 20-year-old defender as their new centre-back?
