‘I enjoy every minute’ Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo reflects on his two years at Anfield Career

After scoring 55 goals and 50 assists for PSV Eindhoven and gaining a reputation in Europe as a left winger, Dutch international Cody Gakpo was expected to join Manchester United, but ended up joining Liverpool in the winter of 2023.

The 25-year-old attacker, who was a front-line utility player in former Jurgen Klopp’s regime, also used as a centre-forward and midfielder, is now fixed on the left wing following the appointment of his compatriot Arne Slott as manager.

He showed his full potential in a position he was only too familiar with and led the attack alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz. The Dutch attacker reflected on his two smooth-sailing years at Anfield and revealed that he has enjoyed every minute.

“I enjoy every minute I’m here,”

“It has been a fantastic two years for myself.”

“A lot of things happened obviously – a lot of good moments, some lesser-good moments but a lot of things that I’ve learned. I’m very happy to be here at the club, hopefully for many more years!”

“I think now we are in a good place as a team and I’m very happy that I can contribute as well. We spoke about it the other day, some players thought I was here already way longer. But it has only been two years so hopefully a lot more years to come.”

Egyptian King has been at the heart of Liverpool’s attack since his days with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. He has scored and assisted a huge amount of goals this season and continues to terrorise opposition defences from the right wing.

Speaking about his fellow Egyptian winger, the former Eindhoven winger mentioned the fact that he has been able to watch him up close in top-level performances. He also mentioned that they are able to compete with each other and aim for the top.

“I don’t know what to say! It’s very special what we are all witnessing. The amount of goals he scores but the assists he gives as well, the way he plays the game, how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like myself in a position to score and to be dangerous is from a high level.”

“I hope for us and for him that he can continue doing that for a long time. We are very lucky to have him and proud that we can be his teammate and try to make him better. And he is trying to make us better as well.”
