Scottish international Ben Doak has been highly rated by manager Jurgen Klopp as a high potential player and has been given first-team opportunities. He is not considered an important team member under Arne Slot and has spent time on loan at Middlesbrough.
In the Championship, he has two goals and five assists in 20 games so far, leading the attack for Michael Carrick’s team. His sharp dribble penetration is part of his charm and he will be looking to improve his numbers further over the second half of the season.
According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are interested in the 19-year-old dribbler and have made an offer of £15 million, but Liverpool have rejected the proposal. The report also claims that they are demanding close to £30 million as a transfer fee.
It remains to be seen whether he will be a regular contender if he returns to Liverpool next season. Rumours of a new attacker are rife, so a loan could be on the cards once again.
He should be happy at his age to be in an environment where he can get results in the Championship, join a Premier League club that will pay him around £30 million and give him the chance to play on a weekly basis.
It wouldn’t be a bad deal for Liverpool either, and if they could also include the 17.5% sell-on clause that comes with the Fabio Carvalho et al deal, which would accrue in the next transfer window, they would be in the clear.
Will the Reds let go of a winger who could be the future of Scotland too soon…?
