Spanish international Nico Williams lifted the trophy at EURO 2024 after defeating England in the final. The 22-year-old winger, who grew up in Athletic Bilbao’s lower divisions, was expected to move to Barcelona during the transfer window last summer.
However, he decided to stay with his current team and has been a regular left winger this season, scoring two goals and five assists in 24 games, but his performances have been better than his numbers and strong clubs are still interested.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool also considered a move for the Spanish attacker during last summer’s transfer window. However, it does not say whether they are still interested and does not mention whether they will make a move for him this month or this summer.
He has scored 22 goals and provided 31 assists in 146 games for San Mames and has also scored four goals in 24 games for the full national team. At just 22 years of age, he is still a young player and an immediate asset to any mega club, not just those in Spain.
Barcelona have shown continued interest, while Arsenal and Chelsea are also said to be interested. With a release clause of €60 million, it’s not a sum that Premier League clubs can’t come up with, and a battle may be brewing.
Is there a future for Liverpool to get serious about acquiring the 22-year-old left winger?
