Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, who will turn 34 this July, has been in great form this season. He has shown overwhelming leadership in the final line and continues to repel opposition attacks with his calm one-on-one handling.
The veteran centre-back, whose long feeds to Mohamed Salah are also a weapon, will see his current contract expire at the end of the season. Both the player and the club are believed to be open to a new contract, but it has been a frustrating period with no progress being made as the new year begins.
Former England defender Martin Keown, who made over 400 appearances for Arsenal during his playing career, describes the Liverpool captain in a unique way. He quipped that the Merseyside club should keep him on.
“He’s a Rolls Royce. He’s purring across the ground, he’s got pace, he’s a man mountain, he’s very good in the air. He’s probably just at the peak of his powers right now.”
