Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, whose contract with Liverpool is due to expire in less than six months.
He has been one of the top-ranked performers of his career this season and continues to contribute to his team’s victories with both goals and assists. He has been a driving force behind the team’s strong performances in the Premier League and Champions League.
The player is said to want to stay at Anfield and an offer has reportedly been presented by the Liverpool side, but no progress has been made at this stage.
The Saudis have seen the situation and are said to be reaching out and trying to make contact with the player’s agent.
Keith Wyness, who was CEO of Everton and Aston Villa in the past, said it would be difficult for Liverpool to compete with the Saudi Arabian club from a business perspective, but said it would ultimately depend on the player’s future career.
“I don’t think Liverpool will want to match the Saudi offer, given the age of Salah. Al-Hilal have come out of the pack, and it’s huge numbers.”
“It won’t just be the football numbers, it’s also the status he would have in Saudi. But I don’t think this will be a question of money – because there’s only one winner in that case.”
“It’s a question of what he wants to do on the pitch. Does he want to get more records at Liverpool? It’ll come down to what he wants football-wise.”
