Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is delighted to make his ‘first’ full Champions League appearance at Anfield Match

England U-21 defender Jarell Quansah made 34 appearances in the season that ended Jurgen Klopp’s nine-year reign at Liverpool. He also played seven matches in the Europa League, gaining valuable experience.

This season he made his first foray into the Champions League. His first appearance was at Anfield against Bayer Leverkusen. In this match he was introduced midway through the game and played only two minutes. In other matches, he was benched but never saw the pitch.

Then, the day before against LOSC Lille, he started at Anfield for the first time, playing 90 minutes and contributing to the victory. Liverpool continued their unbeaten run. Reflecting on the match, the 21-year-old centre-back said it was a dream come true for him and his family.

“It was a very enjoyable experience for myself,”

“I have worked so hard for my career and to be able to play in the Champions League at Anfield, a dream come true for myself. I’m very proud. For me and my family.”

“Obviously I couldn’t hear the theme tune too much because of the boos! (Liverpool fans boo UEFA anthem after 2022 Champions League final chaos). But it is definitely a dream come true. I am trying to keep perspective on it. When things are not going my way, I can look back at nights like tonight. I will always have that. That will always be under my belt and I am grateful for the opportunity.”
