Mohamed Salah has been tremendous this season. He reached double figures in both goals and assists early on and has been involved in goals ever since. After 22 Premier League games, he has 19 goals and 13 assists.
He also scored a goal against Ipswich Town the other day to overtake former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry in the Premier League’s all-time scoring charts.
With one more goal, he is also level with former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and is only eight goals away from former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
Others close to achieving great records. Former French international Thierry Henry’s record of 24 goals and 21 assists in the 2002/23 season is increasingly likely to be surpassed, with five goals and eight assists needed in the remaining 16 games.
Former England defender Rio Ferdinand, who also played for Manchester United and Leeds United, said that on current form he would break the record held by the former Arsenal forward.
“The trajectory that Mo Salah is on right now, he surpasses that [Henry’s record], it seems,”
“Whether he can do that is a different story. You need a bit of luck in terms of staying fit and maintaining form.”
“You need your team to keep providing you chances, and you to keep putting them on a plate for other people, but the form that he’s in, the run that he’s on at the moment, and the fact that they’re top of the league and are full of confidence, you can’t bet against him.”
