Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi played in the final line-up of the England team that reached the semi-finals of EURO 2024, Europe’s pinnacle competition, last summer. It looked as if he would step straight into a top club, but three offers from Newcastle United were not agreed on a transfer fee and he will remain in London this season.
The 24-year-old centre-back remains on the shortlist of top clubs and could make a move in this summer’s market over the next year.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool, whose name has been on the list since the summer of 2024, are likely to join the battle once again. Arsenal, who are also in the top half of the Premier League, are also in the hunt, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle also likely to be involved in the fierce competition.
The 24-year-old centre-back has made 28 appearances for Crystal Palace, who have struggled in the early stages of the season but are slowly climbing up the table, as team captain and leader of the defensive line.
Although not a big centre-back in terms of height, he has the foot technique and passing ability up front required of a modern defender, and he is also fast. He also has the legs to cover vast spaces and is one of the best defenders in England.
He has been at his current club since 2021, and it would not be surprising if he is soon looking to move to a Champions League regular. So does the England defender have a future playing at Anfield next season…?
