Liverpool are looking for a long-term replacement for Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, who turns 34 this year. They are also looking to strengthen their centre-backs, with 22-year-old defender Jarell Quansah not rated highly by manager Arne Slott.
According to TBR Football’s Graham Bailey, Spanish U-21 defender Dean Huijsen, who has been instrumental in Bournemouth’s good form this season, is high on Liverpool’s list of candidates.
The 19-year-old centre-back made his first Premier League appearance last summer with Juventus and quickly adapted to English football. Although he didn’t get a chance to play in the early games, he has been starting most of the recent matches and has become a key part of the final line.
Despite his height of 1.97 metres, he has adapted to the intensity of the Premier League. He can provide quality passing with both feet and can also defend up front, and his reputation continues to grow after a fine performance against Liverpool in early February.
The English journalist revealed that he has a release clause in place, effective this summer, for a fee of £55 million. That is more than enough for Liverpool to pay and, given his age, it seems a suitable investment.
Liverpool are also interested in Hungarian defender Milos Kerkez, also of Bournemouth, but will they be able to make a double catch from the same team…?
