Carlos Baleba joined Brighton in the summer of 2023 after emerging as a promising youngster in Lille, France.
His outstanding athleticism has helped him to establish himself regularly in his second season at the club, and he has been on the pitch in 27 games so far throughout the Premier League and cup competitions.
He has made four appearances for the Cameroon national team since making his debut in June 2024, and despite being 21 years old, he has developed into one of the best midfielders in the national league.
With his time to step up said to be approaching, former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang has recommended a move to Liverpool to the country’s junior national team.
“Liverpool is the club that would suit him best for me, and I’m not just saying that because they are by far the best team in the Premier League this season and one of the strongest in Europe.”
“Arne Slot’s system of play would suit him very well. The Reds like to attack, press and move quickly in transition.”
“As for Chelsea, I’m not sure it would be a good choice.”
“The team is having a decent season, but it’s a notch below Liverpool or Arsenal, and I think Baleba has the level to play in one of the best teams in England. He’s ready for it; he’s working for it.”

He is also ideal for Liverpool, who are looking for a defensive midfielder. With his lack of experience and reliance on athleticism, he is also the preferred option for further development at Brighton.
However, it is difficult to spend big money on a player at the bottom of midfield, as the team has various other areas to strengthen, such as left-back and centre-forward.
Will he take the advice of the country’s senior national team players and move to Merseyside in the future…?
