With Andy Robertson entering his 30s, Liverpool are interested in young left-backs. The performances of reserve defender Kostas Tsimikas have not improved and he has yet to steal a regular place. With the average age of the players increasing, a generational change is inevitable.
International media outlet The Athletic’s Gregg Evans, referring to Liverpool’s left-back situation, revealed that it is unlikely that the Scotland captain will be leaving anytime soon, but hinted that the Greek defender could be sold.
“If Liverpool find a young left-back with the potential to be a long-term replacement — Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, 21, is admired, for example — then Robertson, 30, can still play a part in the years ahead,”
“His contract expires in the summer of 2026 and Robertson is in no rush to leave.”
“A short-term extension is plausible. Finding a buyer for Kostas Tsimikas is more likely than moving on Robertson.”
Since joining from Hull City, he has formed one of the strongest side-backs in the world, together with Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right flank. He became an icon of the Jurgen Klopp era, recording an unbelievable number of assists for a defender.
Although his athleticism has now waned, he also leads the team as a mental pillar. His experienced playing style is also very consistent, and although it is difficult to play two games every week, he is still a top defender and participates in attack in one game.
Will Liverpool secure a new left-back and sort out Robertson or Tsimikas?
