Former France defender Mamadou Sakho, who played for Paris Saint-Germain until 2013, made the step up to Liverpool that summer. He made 80 appearances at Anfield, although he was not an absolute regular.
The French centre-back was forced out of his position at Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp took over as manager, and has played for Crystal Palace and Montpellier, and is currently with Georgia’s Torpedo Kutaisi.
Both are aiming for the top eight in the Champions League, where they will face Liverpool and PSG, both of whom are old friends.
The defender said he was looking forward to the match, but he shared his feelings from his own experience that both PSG’s home ground, Parc des Princes, and Anfield have a special atmosphere.
“Frankly, it’s really 50-50 between the two and a pleasure to watch,”
“Everything can be decided by an acceleration from [Ousmane] Dembele, [Bradley] Barcola or [Mohamed] Salah. Or an overflow from [Achraf] Hakimi or [Trent] Alexander-Arnold. And the difference, it’s perhaps also the public who can make it.”
“The atmosphere at the Parc des Princes is also special. Liverpool’s players will have to be ready to withstand it. And conversely, I already know that the Parisians will remember the return match in Liverpool. Whether they win or lose. Because a match there [Anfield] remains a unique experience.”
“When you play there, you don’t forget it. The winner of this opposition will not be the only favourite for the final victory but it will mark everyone’s minds. And my heart will not lean to one side. I will feel as red as blue.”
