Virgil van Dijk is getting older, while Joe Gomez has struggled to recover from his injury habits. There is an impression that he is slowly regaining his confidence, but the departure of England’s 22-year-old defender Jarell Quansah is also attracting attention.
Liverpool have also shown interest in new centre-backs and left-backs, and are looking to strengthen their final line as well as to change generations. The club were frequently linked with a left-back during last summer’s transfer window, and reinforcements could be in full swing this summer.
According to Rousing The Kop, Liverpool could reignite their interest in England defender Levi Colwill, who plays for Chelsea.
The 22-year-old centre-back, who has a long-term contract until 2029 but can also play left-back, is rumoured to be in contact with the Merseyside club when he extends his contract in 2023 and is certainly being evaluated by Liverpool’s scouting team.
However, it is not known whether the same assessment would be made under the Arne Slott regime. The report also claims that other players on the list include Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, Sporting defender Gonzalo Inácio and Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez.
He has a long contract remaining and has played 25 Premier League games this season. Unlike last year, he is also in a position to challenge for the Champions League, and if he gets the right to play on the European stage, there will be no reason for him to make a move.
Realistically, it is unlikely that Liverpool will ever again make a serious move for an English centre-back, and the transfer fee would have to be substantial.
It remains to be seen who the Reds will put in their sights as the successor to the Dutch captain…
