With negotiations for a new contract between Egyptian international Mohamed Salah and Liverpool stalled, and transfer rumours abound for Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez and Colombian international Luis Diaz, the club has turned its attention to new attackers.
The list includes not only a direct successor to Egyptian King, but also a centre forward and a left winger. The list is wide-ranging, not only in the Premier League, but also in La Liga, the Bundesliga and Serie A.
According to CaughtOffside, the Merseyside club are interested in 23-year-old Ansgar Knauff, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, and are looking to renew their options up front.
The former Germany U-23 winger made his first-team debut for Borussia Dortmund, but only made a total of 16 appearances for the club. He failed to develop his talent and, after a six-month loan spell, joined Frankfurt in July 2023.
He has made over 30 appearances this season, including in the domestic league and Europa League, and although his numbers are not high – three goals and seven assists – he brings rhythm to the team’s attacks with his speedy dribbling and carrying up front.
He has experience of playing at a high level, having played six games in the Champions League as well as the Europa League.
He scored three goals in 22 games for the German U-21 national team. His debut for the full national team may still be some way off, but he is steadily developing.
Not only Salah, Nunez and Diaz, but also Italian international Federico Chiesa is being talked about returning to his country after only one year.
A growing number of media outlets are also reporting the departure of Portuguese international Diogo Jota from Anfield, and the possibility of significant reinforcements for the coming season cannot be ruled out.
Will the 23-year-old winger, who also has roots in Ghana, make his way onto the Premier League stage next season…?
