Egyptian international Mohamed Salah has continued to impress at Anfield since joining from AS Roma. He has remained an ace in the front three and even after the departure of his two sidekicks, energising the attack with both goals and assists.
This season, he has regained the physicality of his prime and tops the rankings in both goals and assists. Egyptian King’s presence has been outstanding, but he is approaching the age of 33 in June this year, so it would not be surprising if his performances were to decline rapidly at any time.
As for potential successors to the former Chelsea winger, various wingers have been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, but no concrete moves have been made in either case. Up until now, the club has been unable to secure a suitable replacement, but it is time to get serious.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are monitoring Turkish international Arda Güler, who plays for Real Madrid, as a possible replacement for the great scorer, and could make a move for him.
The 20-year-old winger, who most recently clashed on the pitch with Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai in a match between Turkey and Hungary, is a left-handed right winger like Salah. He brings rhythm to the attack, using his excellent technique and dribbling to toy with opponents.
However, he is not a high-scoring type and has only scored three goals in more than 30 games this season, although he has made many appearances during the course of the season. He counts ‘seven’ assists, but it is clear that an attacker who can score more would be ideal.
He has struggled for limited playing time under Carlo Ancelotti, but is focused on continuing his playing career at Madrid. He has been linked with a departure on numerous occasions, but has dedicated himself to fighting for his current club.
With a change of manager likely next season, he will no doubt be looking to secure a permanent starter’s place with a new manager. No matter how much money and inter-club agreements are reached, it is hard to imagine the young 20-year-old winger deciding to leave Real at the moment.
As for the club, Liverpool are also reportedly interested in Brazilian international Rodrygo and others, but none of this seems realistic. Just for the sake of gossip, it is worth imagining what it would be like to play at Anfield.
